A group of 27 scholars will join our community as Newberry Fellows during the 2021-2022 academic year. Supported by funding from the Newberry and other partners, the fellows will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Newberry’s world-class collection while pursuing research on a diverse range of topics in the humanities.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the incoming fellows to our community and support them as they use the Newberry’s collection to make new and exciting contributions to humanities research,” said Keelin Burke, Director of Fellowships and Academic Programs at the Newberry.

The new interdisciplinary cohort includes professors, independent researchers, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars from a variety of disciplines and institutions.

The researchers will explore an array of topics, including literary anthologies by nineteenth-century Indigenous women, representations of deafness and neurodivergence during the British Enlightenment, and the treatment of race on early twentieth-century stages and performance spaces in the United States and Britain.
